Tata Frenkel “How One Becomes Foucault‘s Pendulum?”
An event every day that begins at 00:00, repeating until 2023-08-27
From June 29th in the Turbine Hall of the Energy and Technology Museum, the installation of educator, sound artist Tata Frenkel “How One Becomes Foucault‘s Pendulum?” is open.
During the presentation of the installation, on July 7th, at 5 PM, a performative lecture “How One Becomes Foucault‘s Pendulum? A Test” will take place. While presenting the drawings, the author will talk about experimental education methodologies, what diagrammatic narratives are and what happens if Foucault’s pendulum suddenly stops. The lecture will be held in English.
“How One Becomes Foucault‘s Pendulum?”
Series of drawings, installation
The maps, notations and diagrams of the installation do not have to answer the question raised in the title – how one becomes Foucault‘s pendulum? – but presents methods of physical, biomechanical or mental preparation for the body that aims to become it (Foucault‘s pendulum).
Such technical imaging is needed to represent a graphical potential object or device on a plane, mostly for future production or construction. In these works, technical instrumentation and the articulation of very abstract ideas are combined, the individual sense is transferred to the vision, perception or knowledge of others. It is true that reading such a sketch is considered quite a work for the inner eyes.
For example, one of the drawings (titled “A Human Lives Few Times”, 2019) shows another invention-dream – a flying machine based on the resurrection of its components, the most ideal helicopter body in the shape of a spiral or moving sinusoid and a super butterfly wing.
Tata Frenkel is a creator of experimental music, sound art, researcher and educator, who pays great attention to performative speaking in the field of interdisciplinary art, and humor in the learning process. The exhibited drawings are an artifact of the Unseen Arts*, diagrammatic material for educational activities.
