Join the new Tesla Academy course

From September, the Museum of Energy and Technology will offer technical workshops for 14-17 year olds. “Tesla Academy takes place in the Museum’s workshop (the first public power plant in Vilnius), named after the famous inventor, physicist, mechanical and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla.

What will we do in this workshop? We will learn how to use modern technologies such as CO2 lasers, 3D printers, wide format plotters, microcontrollers and other electronics. After familiarising ourselves with and mastering the latest equipment, we will produce an exhibit of our choice. At the end of the Tesla Academy, participants will have acquired the basics of programming, electronics and engineering.

Here, each participant will experience what it means to be an engineer, a programmer and a scientist! During the workshop we will create small teams where all team members will have an important role to play, from leader to programmer. Each team will present their project ideas to be implemented at the end of the year. The aim of the group is to overcome the challenges of the project through practical activities and hands-on activities, and to contribute to a better future for technology.

It is unique in that it follows the principles of non-formal education, where students try out different technologies, discover their field of interest, or deepen their knowledge in their chosen field from the start: engineering, electronics or programming.

Participants create and implement individual or group projects. The guidance is flexible and tailored to each student’s knowledge and needs. The leader of the group is Andrzej Kuldoš, an electronics engineer and electronics workshop leader, and the curator is Arnas Avchimovičius.

Why participate in the Tesla Academy?

  • The workshop is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment;
  • Integrated engineering, electronics and programming classes;
  • Great attention is paid to the needs and knowledge of each student;
  • A combination of individual and team work;
  • Learning through practice;
  • Activities take place in an authentic space – the historic Vilnius Central Power Station;
  • Competent leader.

“Tesla Academy programme:

  • First meeting – introduction, familiarisation;
  • First month – training in safe handling of equipment (five FDM and one SLA 3D printers, a 100×70 cm laser, a wide-format CO2 plotter, micro-controllers, sensors and other electronic components), familiarisation with the basic principles of their operation and their potential applications;
  • Open classes. We will develop ideas that we will turn into real projects;
  • Using the knowledge and skills acquired, we will each individually implement a technical creative project of our choice;
  • Discussion of the school year – we will talk about the challenges we have faced during the project and rejoice at the technological creations we have made; all participants will receive a certificate for the knowledge they have acquired.

The workshop will take place twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm for 2 academic hours each.

The cost is €110/month.
