On December 8th, the Liepkalnis Christmas Town – a place of festive entertainment for Vilnius residents and guests – will be lit up in the unique centuries-old Liepkalnis Water Storage.
The spectacular opening evening will be crowned by a FREE jazz concert featuring the Vilnius University Culture Centre’s „VU Jazz Voices” ensemble led by Martynas Vilpišauskas.
„VU Jazz Voices” is a jazz collective in its third year of existence, founded on the initiative of Vilnius University and the Culture Centre. The ensemble performs at various events in Vilnius, where you can hear the ensemble’s performances of exceptional international jazz pieces and arrangements of Lithuanian songs.
The founder and leader of VU Jazz Voices is Martynas Vilpišauskas. A professional musician, performer and voice teacher, he graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Drama and a Master’s degree in Composition from the University of Hertfordshire, England. In the UK, Martynas has managed several different choirs, sung in the a cappella music ensemble VIVE, which won the prestigious Ward Swingle Award and appeared on BBC television.
Martynas also organises sound meditation sessions, which you can find out more about here.
On 8 December Liepkalnis water storage will become a real Christmas fairy-tale town. Magical moments will be created by jazz tunes in a cosy atmosphere, burning sculptures, unique installations by an artist from Ukraine and meetings with Santa Claus.
